Frantisek Hubek’s journey into the world of ceramics began in his childhood, with a natural talent for working with his hands. His passion was further fueled by Julius Polkorab, a teacher who introduced him to the beauty of art history and majolica—an ancient form of ceramic artistry. Volunteering during archaeological digs with his great-grandfather, an archaeologist, ignited mr. Hubek’s fascination with smoky ceramics, a technique reminiscent of the Japanese Raku style.
After mastering his studies, mr. Hubek joined Slovenska ludová majolika, a place where the earth met fire and hands danced to the rhythm of tradition. In the pitcher workshop, he worked alongside legends – Miloslav Orsagh, Jan Viglas, Marian Liska, Drahoslav Chalany – each shaping not just clay, but the future of Slovak ceramics.
Following the Velvet Revolution, he started his own business, initially focusing on majolica and smoky ceramics. Over time, he expanded to stoneware, fireclay, and porcelain, drawn to the unique textures of each material.
Known for his dedication to quality and innovation, mr. Hubek continually experiments with new techniques and materials, creating both functional and artistic pieces that celebrate the timeless beauty of craftsmanship.
